Maria Doreuli specialised in typeface design with Alexander Tarbeev during her studies of graphic design in Moscow State University of Printing (2004–2010). She also received a Masters degree in Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK) in 2013. After Type and Media she moved back to Russia and started working independently, running a small design studio, Contrast Foundry in Moscow and writing about Cyrillic script together with Krista Radoeva, Cyrillicsly. Maria is working on both traditional and experimental, self-initiated and commercial, local and international type projects. She likes to explore new areas in design and to be challenged by implausible and interesting briefs. Her work has been awarded by ED-Awards, Granshan, Letter.2, Morisawa, NewCyrillic, The Type Directors Club.
