Tid

Tid, by Letters from Sweden and Stefania Malmsten, is an interpretation of The Best Typeface in the World, a typeface and an idea that Göran Söderström and Stefania have both been obsessed with throughout their working lives.

Initially created for Moderna Museet in Stockholm, a first version of Tid was introduced during their extensive exhibition with Laurie Andersson – an artist who works with text and language – in the spring of 2023. Graphic design for the exhibition was done by Malmsten Hellberg.

Tid is our take on The Best Typeface in the World 2024, in terms of both expression and functionality. It works effectively in a digital environment and offers extensive language support. It is pleasant to read which makes it accessible and relevant. The italics mirror the romans, and the bold style maintains a consistent design with the regular.

Tid’s weight distribution and appearance is designed to result in a range of weights that are similar in width, taking up an equal amount of space. Serifs and tails are consistently cut either horizontally or vertically. The balance between capitals and lowercase is harmonious, and the serif lengths are adjusted to avoid uneven letter spacing.

Tid is available in eight text styles, and four display cuts.
