Custom letters from Sweden

Sometimes that perfect typeface simply doesn’t exist. In addition to our retail fonts, we also develop custom typefaces tailored to suit our clients’ needs. A commission might entail a completely new design or modification of a retail typeface. Other services include lettering, typeface consulting, screen optimizations and education.

Ableton Sans

In music hardware and software Ableton interfaces revolve around “turning the knob”. Ableton Sans embodies this movement by spiraling round strokes outwards. This typeface was developed solely for use in Ableton’s physical and digital interfaces. Art direction by A Color Bright.

MTG Sans

MTG Sans is a custom type­face devel­oped to play an impor­tant part of the new MTG brand, active in 40 mar­kets around the world. The type­face is opti­mized for eight dif­fer­ent dig­i­tal plat­forms includ­ing Swe­dens largest stream­ing ser­vice, Viaplay. We were commissioned by BVD to collaborate and create ­a sim­ple, clear type­face with a per­sonal and human­is­tic touch.

Tele2 Slab

With input from Kurppa Hosk we have designed a unique Slab Serif typeface for Tele2. Each style in the family is optimized for its main use area. The strong, compact Heavy weight with lowered diacritics is a perfect tool for setting tight headlines. The Bold style does its magic in sub-headings and short preambles and the Regular style is optimized for body copy, both in print and on screens.

Acne Studios

In close collaboration with Acne Studios we developed a new typeface for their visual identity. The fonts were made in specific optical weights for use on light or dark backgrounds. The Acne Studios logotype and the Acne Studios typeface is designed by Johannes Svartholm.

Zeta introduced olive oil, pasta and the Mediterranean culinary culture to Sweden. Founded in 1971 by Fernando Di Luca, Zeta is the most popular brand in its aisle. This typeface family is inspired by Italian Art Deco, comes in different styles and flavors and is specifically designed to be used on product packaging. Art direction by Hummingbirds.

Tictail Sans

Tictail, the design-driven startup that has grown from four guys and an idea to 33 employees and 60,000 Tictail stores, decided they wanted to be different. In a landscape where the majority opt for a geometric sans, Tictail turned to explore another direction to build their brand. Tictail Sans is the product of an ongoing discussion on the nature of Scandinavian Design. The typeface is a contemporary grotesk with open counters and is drawn to perform great on modern screens.

Webfonts for Volvo Cars

On assignment from R/GA Stockholm we have developed a set of screen optimized webfonts for the launch of the new We fine-tuned the current Volvo Cars font range with outline optimizations, x-height matching, file size reduction and TrueType-hinting. We also redrew an optically thinner version of the classic Volvo Cars Broad typeface for use at smaller sizes.

Siri Headline

Expressen, one of Sweden’s leading evening papers, was looking for a custom headline weight of Siri. More and more readers access the news via mobile devices and Expressen wanted to cater to that experience. The commission started with a headline version for large headings but more styles are in the works.
